After a late-night flood in the Daphne Cockwell Complex (DCC) yesterday, Pitman Hall residents are feeling left behind by the university.
“Every couple of weeks Pitman Hall floods with sewage and I never hear a peep about it,” said first-year resident Ella Giller.
Giller says she feels the administration is picking favourites when it comes to comfort in residences and Pitman-ers are being left out.
“Where’s my TMUSafe Alert? Where’s my text message telling me to evacuate?” she said. “I had to find out my room had been soiled by liquid AND solid waste all by myself.”
DCC residents on the other hand say the response was reasonable given the grave danger the flood posed.
“I was terrified," said Richie P. Moneybags, a first-year financial mathematics student and DCC resident. “I immediately dialed my chauffeur and left with two suitcases and a hat box.”
“Even though the flood was in the basement and I live on floor 26, I was worried we wouldn’t make it out alive,” he added.
A spokesperson for Housing and Residence Life told the Abnormal School this in response to the students’ complaints.
“Due to the consistent level of disrepair, things like flooding, gas leaks and catastrophic structural failures in Pitman Hall do not constitute an ‘emergency.’”
